Damnit Brandy..

More Trouble for Brandy: $50 Million Worth
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
First, it was the legal consequences. Now, Brandy is facing some of the financial consequences of a fatal crash she was involved in last month.
The parents of the woman killed in the freeway crash are suing the singer and actress for $50 million dollars.
The wrongful-death lawsuit filed in Los Angeles claims Brandy was driving recklessly when her Land Rover struck the back of a Honda driven by a 38-year-old woman. The lawsuit comes just one day after authorities with the California Highway Patrol recommended that Brandy be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.
Nick Velasquez, CHP spokesman, says the case is currently under review to determine whether the evidence warrants the charge. Earlier this month, Brandy publicly expressed condolences to the victim's family. Her publicist, Courtney Barnes, says the 27-year-old songbird was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
According to a CHP report, Brandy was driving her 2007 Land Rover on I-405 on Dec. 30 when traffic unexpectedly slowed. She hit the back of a car driven by 38-year-old Awatef Aboudihaj.
Aboudihaj then hit another vehicle, slid sideways into the center divider and was hit by another car, the report said. Aboudihaj, who was a waitress in Los Angeles, died from blunt-force injuries, according to the coroner's office.
In part of the police report obtained by AP, the CHP alleges Brandy caused the accident by driving at a speed "greater than is reasonable or prudent" or that "endangers the safety of persons or property."
Brandy, who had made five albums, began her recording career at 14 and earned a Grammy in 1999. She has landed roles in movies and TV, starring in her own sitcom "Moesha" from 1996 -2001. Most recently, she was a judge for NBC's "America's Got Talent."

Bow Wow Can't Get His Mind Off An Ex (Ciara?) In New Single
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
It's been said that it's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all — and Bow Wow raps all about it in his single "Outta My System." The soon-to-be 20-year-old just shot a video for the new track from The Price of Fame in Los Angeles. In the song, Bow Wow raps, "I still got a lot of pain/ I ain't dealt with it all/ I been running round with other chicks/ I'm single and they loving it/ I'm liking it, but I just want the one I was in love with." Fans think he's rapping about his ex-girlfriend Ciara, and Bow cleared it up a little."It deals with a situation I was in, for sure," he said. "It doesn't take a rocket scientist to listen to that song and know what I'm talking about or who I'm talking to. That's why I did it. That once again deals with the price of fame."The rapper's rep said the video will be shot in black and white, and show Bow Wow in a vulnerable state because of his crumbled relationship (see "Bow Wow Fesses Up About Ex-Girlfriend Ciara On December LP"). Bow Wow said he has talked to Ciara since their split and they have been cordial. "I'm sure she has my album just like I got hers," he said. "She told me congrats on everything. ... We had small talk and kept it moving."After "Outta My System," Bow says he might shoot a video with R. Kelly for "I'm a Flirt." Some radio stations have even started playing the song already."It was a pleasure," he said about working with Kells. "It was almost like that record wasn't supposed to happen because it was so last-second. We recorded it two days before I had to turn in my masters. ... Matter of fact, the masters were actually turned in and I called the label and said, 'I got a song with R. Kelly. Y'all gotta stop the press. This has to make the album.' The reason [the song] is not listed on [the album] is because we didn't have time to do the packaging over."

Snoop Dogg Not Taking Rap for Deadly Weapon Possession

The rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, plead not guilty to felony charges on Wednesday in California's Orange County Superior court. The charges stemmed from an incident in which he attempted to board a plane with a collapsible police baton in his luggage last September. Broadus argues that he was unaware that the baton was illegal and was going to use it as a prop in a video. As a convicted felon, a guilty verdict could leave him locked up for three years.

Gospel crooner Ricky Dillard was shocked to learn that his Atlanta-area home had burned to the ground early Tuesday morning. The house contained his awards, as well as unreleased recordings. A "distraught" Dillard, who got word of the fire from his pastor, said, "The only thing I can really rely on is the word of God that's keeping me together. I want to fall apart, but His word is keeping me together." At the time of the fire, Dillard was in New York on business. Dillard's manager, William Bogle, says Dillard had not planned to return to Atlanta until February, but likely will come back earlier because of the fire.

A Relative ‘Betrays’ Oprah

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Talk show diva Oprah Winfrey says in the February issue of her magazine that she was torn up to learn that her half-sister, Patricia Lloyd, sold a story to the National Enquirer about her becoming a teenage mom at age 14. Winfrey had already confirmed the report in 1990, telling Parade magazine that the baby was born prematurely and died shortly after birth. Winfrey, who says she cried for three days after learning her secret had been exposed, wrote in "O" magazine that her relative, who she did not name, "sat in a room, told them the story of my hidden shame and left their offices $19,000 richer." Winfrey now says that "betrayal," and having the secret out was actually "liberating," and it allowed her to begin to heal from the sexual abuse she experienced as a girl.

New Orleans Is Losing Its Blackness

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

A year after Mayor Ray Nagin made his infamous “Chocolate City” remark to urge African Americans to return to New Orleans, the city most ravaged by Hurricane Katrina has lost some of its chocolate flava. Once one of the most culturally distinct African-American cities, New Orleans, which before Katrina had a 67 percent Black population, now is only 47 percent Black and 43 percent White. “We need the chocolate back in the vanilla,”housing activist Endesha Juakali shouted to a crowd last month to protest the demolition of public housing damaged by Katrina. "It will never be the same in my lifetime,” she said, but added that the longer housing takes to be rebuilt the less likely the city’s Black population is to rebound.

PAYIN TO USE DA N WORD!?!?!

Use the "N-word" in one Texas town if you want to, but it'll could cost you $500.

Mayor Ken Corley of Brazoria, Texas, which is about 65 miles south of Houston, says one night while watching two Black ministers on TV talk about how offensive the word is, he came up with idea.
The 62-year-old mayor says while the racial slur isn't a particular problem in his town, it is a problem nationally.
"I just think it would be great if this little town of Brazoria, with 2,800 people, leads the way in fighting against this offensive language," said Corley.
Under the ordinance, violators who use the word in an offensive or aggressive manner would be charged with disturbing the peace.
You may recall last month, Damon Wayans was fined $320 by The Laugh Factory (the infamous location of Michael Richards’ racist tirade) for using the word “nigger” 16 times. The Laugh Factory decided that each “nigger” was worth a mere $20, bringing Wayans’ fine total to just over $300.
If Corley gets his way with this new rule, the rule would be expanded to include other racial slurs.
Corley, who is White, says he often heard the "N-word" growing up in Brazoria County, but now he says he mainly hears it in rap music and used by young people to greet each other and says the ordinance he wants to put in place would allow the "N-word" to be used a s friendly greeting.

to be honest some ppl do use it any where like da hell wit it / who cares but we [blk ppl] have the right to say it sh!t all dat we went thru so this jus pissed me off for the day..

New monica rumor FALSE

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
It looks like another R&B singer is headed for the unemployment line. MediaTakeOut.com spoke with an insider at J Records who claims that Monica Arnold's career with them is just about over.Monica, who hit the scene in 1995, started off her career like a rocket - with each of her first two albums going triple platinum. But since then, her career seems to have petered out. Her third album struggled to make gold, and her latest album has sold barely 200,000 copies. And MediaTakeOut.com has learned that it's the poor performance of Monica's last album that may have sealed her fate. The insider tells, "For the last album, we gave Monica everything she needed but it still didn't work. She had top producers and top promotion - but she couldn't get any traction. I think it's about time to call it quits with her." Monica's unlikely to be surprised by J Records' decision. Last month, in a last ditch effort to salvage her career, the Atlanta singer implored her fans to sign a petition supporting her latest album. Unfortunately for Monica, the petition garnered fewer than 1,000 signatures. But getting dropped by J Records may prove to be a blessing in disguise for the lovely young Monica. The insider believes that Monica is likely to be successful doing something other than singing. She explains, "Monica is a very intelligent woman, she can do 1000 different things ... I'm sure in a few years we'll all be like - 'wow look at where she is now.'"
UPDATE: J Records contacted MediaTakeOut.com to say that they have no intentions of dropping Monica. We hope they're telling us the truth.

Jackson ex-lawyer testifies in tape suit

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

A former lawyer for Michael Jackson testified Tuesday that he has felt compelled to take extraordinary measures to ensure discussions with his clients remain private since he and the singer were secretly videotaped aboard a private jet.
Attorney Mark Geragos, who was secretly videotaped with Jackson on a November 2003 flight from Las Vegas to Santa Barbara, where Jackson surrendered on child molestation charges, is suing the jet company XtraJet.
Jackson, who was initially a plaintiff in the civil lawsuit against XtraJet, later dropped out of the case. He was acquitted of the molestation charges in 2005.
Testifying in the non-jury trial, Geragos called the taping one of the worst experiences of his 24-year legal career. He said he obtained a court order preventing XtraJet's then-owner, Jeffrey Borer, from selling the footage after learning of it through the news media.
"I can't think of any act more distressing to me at a professional level than what was done here," he said.
Geragos said he has taken extraordinary measures to protect his clients' privacy since the incident, including meeting with some under freeway overpasses and in hotel rooms. He said he twice sent a colleague overseas to discuss a case rather than have them discuss it over the phone or by e-mail.
Borer and co-defendant Arvel Jett Reeves pleaded guilty in 2005 to installing two digital video recorders to record "a professional entertainer" and his lawyer as the pair traveled by private jet.
Borer was sentenced in October to six months of home detention and three years' probation, and was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.
Reeves was sentenced in July to eight months in prison, six additional months in a halfway house and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine. Reeves testified on a videotape shown in court Monday that no sound was recorded on the flight tapes.
Messages left after hours Tuesday with lawyers for Geragos and XtraJet were not immediately returned.

Sean Paul Hopes To Curb Youth Violence In Jamaica With Next LP

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Sean Paul scored a hit single with "Gimme the Light" in 2002, but now he's looking to the darkness for inspiration with his next solo project, which he hopes to release this summer.

The dancehall star is a third of the way
into his yet-titled album, the follow-up to 2005's platinum The Trinity. He says he's going to address heavier topics on the LP this time around, particularly the problems he sees confronting children in his Jamaica homeland.

"The content is just a little different than what people expect from me," Sean Paul told MTV News last week. "[On] one or two of the songs ... it's not about partying, it's not about ladies; it's about the kids with the guns in the streets. It's more reality. [On] 'Sufferer,' I'm talking about the younger generation that has no other option for success than to find a gun somewhere. I try to appeal to them: 'I know you a sufferer, but it doesn't mean that you can't or shouldn't expect any better.' It's a lot different than from what I usually say, like, 'Get busy, shake that thing.'

"Sometimes when I write something that's more personal to me," he continued, "it's a weird situation."

Since Sean Paul began recording in September, two people close to him have passed: One was a founding member of his Dutty Rock crew and one was a younger music aficionado who was killed in November, the night after he and Sean Paul attended a party together.

Timbaland Didnt Write Furtado Track!

YouTube Clip Claims Timbaland Got Furtado Track From Finnish Dude

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

A YouTube video floating around the Internet is making a controversial claim: that multiplatinum producer Timbaland might be guilty of violating his very own first rule of Beat Club — no biting.

A YouTube user named TimbalandRips
posted a brief clip on the Web site last week that accuses the veteran hip-hop beatsmith of stealing a melody from a little-known Finnish producer named Janne Suni. The video claims Timbaland used Suni's "Acidjazzed Evening" without permission for Nelly Furtado's "Do It," a track from the Canadian singer's most recent album, Loose.

In the video, portions of Suni's song are played first, followed by parts of Timbaland's track, with a recording program indicating the similarities between the two compositions on a computer screen. Toward the end of the clips, text appears asking, "Hm, strangely perfect fit..?"

A second YouTube video has also popped up, suggesting Timbaland used the same Suni work for a ringtone he produced last year titled "Block Party."

Timbaland's representatives had not responded to phone and e-mail queries at press time. A message on a Web site with a Finnish address that appears to be Suni's official site reads, "I have been using the services of a law firm since September 2006. I expect to have more information to publish by Tuesday." The site also indicates that Suni composed "Acidjazzed Evening" under the name Tempest in 2000 for Assembly, a demoparty, or a regular gathering of computer enthusiasts.

Jamie Foxx Explains At NYC Show Why He Didn't Like Kissing Beyonce

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

NEW YORK — Jamie Foxx is clearly a jack of all trades. His dramatic-acting skills earned him an Oscar and his comedy brings audiences to tears. And as for his singing, Foxx's multiple Grammy nominations and multiplatinum plaque say it all.

The actor/singer/comedian brought all his ammunition to Madison Square Garden on Monday night, breaking his Unpredictable show into two sets: One consisting of straight comedy and the other featuring singing, dancing and a brief resurrection of Ray Charles.

A few days prior to the concert, Foxx checked in with MTV News via telephone from Paris, where we was attending a "Dreamgirls" premiere. "You get the bang for your buck," he said. "I'm looking for New York to be off the chain. I want to perform. New York is hot, that whole mystique. We gonna kill that one."

The "we" he was referring to may well have been opener Fantasia, who sanctified the venue with her deep-rooted soul singing. But Foxx proved that he could give the crowd its bang for a buck all by himself.

Starting his set with Jay-Z's "Show Me What You Got," Foxx commanded the crowd to put its "hands up and wave ... and wave! And wave!" Wearing blue jeans, a black T-shirt and a red jacket, Foxx stood in front of a giant screen that projected his autograph and opened with his stand-up routine.

'Dreamgirls' Leads Oscar Noms — Without Best Picture Or Beyonce

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Maybe the sixth time will be the charm for Martin Scorsese. The legendary director, who has gone 0-for-5 in his previous bids to win the Best Director Oscar, got another nod on Tuesday morning (January 23) for his work in the mob drama "The Departed." In a surprise twist, the critically acclaimed musical "Dreamgirls" was shut out of the top awards as "Little Miss Sunshine," the little film that could, earned nominations in two acting categories as well as in the Best Picture race.

Though it did not earn Best Picture or Best Director accolades as some had predicted, "Dreamgirls" did score eight nominations to lead the field of contenders, including bids for art direction, costume design, sound mixing and three nominations for Best Original Song ("Listen," "Patience" and "Love You I Do"). "Babel" follows with seven nominations, "The Queen" and "Pan's Labyrinth" tie with six nods and "The Departed" and "Blood Diamond" are each recognized in five categories. Four films — "Little Miss Sunshine," "Notes on a Scandal," "Letters From Iwo Jima" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" — earned four nominations each.
